TFM & Banger Films Documentary Internship

An Internship for Emerging Trans & Non-Binary Professionals Interested in Documentary Filmmaking.

THE OPPORTUNITY

TFM and Banger Films are partnering to create two Office Production Assistant Internships opportunities to contribute to and learn from the production of Any Other Way: The Jackie Shane Story. The two Production Assistants will support all aspects of the film production and post-production. The production team will count on the PAs for various crucial tasks, from helping prepare the set to printing and distributing daily paperwork to help ensure production gets on smoothly and problem-free. The production assistant will also support the film’s post-production staff and operations by supporting the directors, editors and post-production producers by helping to make sure post production operations are smooth and organized.

Throughout the duration of the internship, the interns will have access to support and guidance from the TFM. They will also receive post-internship coaching for career planning and support with industry-wayfinding.

DATES

PHASE 1: May 8 - June 16 (six weeks), 40hrs/week

PHASE 2: Post-Internship Career Planning Support with TFM - Week of June 19

$20/HR

THE PROJECT

Any Other Way: The Jackie Shane Story tells the story of the extraordinary life and mysterious disappearance of pioneering soul singer and Black trans trailblazer, Jackie Shane. Her story will be brought vibrantly to life through intimate recorded conversations with Jackie, her family's journey to discover her legacy, and the voices of those who were inspired by her tenacity o be herself.  The documentary is co-written and co-directed by Michael Mabbott and Lucah Rosenberg-Lee.

WHO IS THIS INTERNSHIP IS FOR

This internship is intended for folks who identify as trans and non-binary and who are:

 

  • All successful candidates must be a resident of Ontario Canada.

  • Passionate about pursuing a career in film and television production

  • Strong interest in documentary film

  • Possess 1-3 years of related experience in media (volunteer, short film, school and shadowing experience all applicable )

  • Eager to learn and able to take direction

  • 4x COVID vaxed 

  • Driver’s license an asset (not required)

  • The TFM & Banger Films are prioritizing candidates who are racialized or identify as Black, Indigenous and/or a Person of Colour

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES TO LEARN ABOUT DOCUMENTARY

To widen the impact of the TFM x Banger Films partnership, we will host two learning sessions about documentary filmmaking that will be open to the Trans Film Mentorship network. These sessions are aimed at advancing participants’ understanding of the documentary filmmaking process and potential career pathways in the field.

 

One session will be focused on the process of making Any Other Way: The Jackie Shane Story and the other will focus on documentary funding for entry-level or emerging filmmakers.
