The Opportunity 

TFM is piloting a brand-new 1x1 career mentorship program!


ONE on ONE is a semi-structured career mentorship initiative for emerging and mid-career trans and non-binary creative professionals seeking support as they develop their skills, deepen their engagement with the industry, and move into the next phase of their careers!


The program pairs participants with an established industry professional in their field and focuses on both career advancement and self-reflection through three 1x1 mentorship meetings over a three-month period.


This program is FREE for mentees.


Open to trans and non-binary folks across Canada!


Applications open: Thursday, February 12, 2026


Applications close: Friday, February 27 2026


Mentorship Program Start Date: Monday March 9, 2026


Mentorship Program End Date: Friday May 29, 2026

Program Details

Applications and Selection Process


Interested applicants must fill out an application form, submit a resume/CV, and link to an example of any related work (portfolio, project, sample, reel, short film, theatre, etc). Only the shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview.
The TFM will select and pair mentors and mentees.


Selection and Pairing

TFM staff will match mentees and mentors based on:

 

  • IMPACT: Does this program meaningfully align with the applicant’s career goals and trajectory?

  • ALIGNMENT: Do we see a promising connection between the applicant and their desired mentors? How can this mentor best support the applicant based on what we understand of their goals?

  • ACCESS & OPPORTUNITY: Would this applicant struggle to access comparable mentorship and guidance without support? Do they face systemic or structural barriers to similar training or work experience?

  • FIT: Does the applicant demonstrate the skills, experience, and self-awareness needed to benefit from this type of intensive, hands-on program?


Mentorship Program

 

  • Successful applicants will be required to attend one orientation session + meet n’ greet.

  • Mentees will meet with their mentors once a month for one hour for a total of three sessions over the course of March - May 2026.


What Are The Mentorship Sessions About?

 

Meetings can cover a wide range of topics - you set the agenda based on your needs! Common topics include:

  • Review of the mentees resume/ portfolio/ reel

  • Discuss employment opportunities

  • Discuss tension points in current work situations

  • Discuss stuck points in mentees’ career

  • Map next career phase

  • Identify areas of growth/ gaps in current skill set

  • Discuss soft skills - i.e. collaboration, care, resilience

  • Networking and community-building

  • Review work methods

  • Discuss creative process

  • Discuss managerial and or technical skills

  • Other

Who is this Program for

This program is intended for emerging and mid-career trans and non-binary creative professionals in Canada who are looking to gain work experience to advance their careers in film and television. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Over 18 years old

  • Are passionate about pursuing a career in film and television

  • Self-motivated, eager to learn and able to take direction

  • Possess great people skills - active listening, clear communication, thoughtful, considerate.

  • Have 3+ years experience working in Film and TV

  • Can commit to three one-hour sessions between March and May 2026.

  • Agree to participate in a program evaluation.

  • Have a clear sense of their goals for the mentorship and how they hope to apply the learning to their career development.
     

This program is NOT intended for

 

  • Entry-level creatives (0-3 years experience), students or recent graduates

  • Experienced and established professionals (unless the applicant is looking to pivot into a new pathway).
